Recently, i upgraded by Laptop to 1GB of RAM [Previously it was 256MB,though Ubuntu's min. system requirements
are 256MB RAM]. So i decided to give a try for installing Ubuntu on Laptop. I choose Ubuntu’s Latest flavor Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Also know Hardy Heron).The Operating system is superb, installing is very easy and quick, it takes about 15 Min. to install. While installing the ubuntu i came to know that ubuntu doesn’t have my city Nagpur in there time zone list, not even Mumbai or New Delhi, so i selected Kolkata.
When i installed ubuntu and after connecting to internet it gives me update warning, showing 268 updates available because the version i installed was 2 months older. Ubuntu has pretty nice and easy interface, faster, and transition effects are also cool.One of the interesting fact is that, The Altr+Ctrl+Del button combination given the Shut down screen !!
.Its also supports my Bluetooth dongle without installing any external drivers.

Now , i am eagerly waiting for the new Ubuntu 8.10, It will be available for download and order 30th of Oct. 2008. If you need the current version for installation you can get ubuntu from there site i.e. Ubuntu.com, You can also order Ubuntu CDs for free from ShipIt.Ubuntu.com

I like Ubuntu a lot as well. But I don’t use it with my work PC because so many programs and documents are made for windows that it is just easier to stay with Windows. I do however have it installed at home on my server and love how easy it was to set up a lamp server.

Hi Chetan,
You stated that you have installed it in just 15 minutes, whereas I tried it on a pc, but it took more than half hour! the PC config was same as yours.
Why so?

@Adam
Yeah, Even many games are made to work of Windows, i think Game or Application makers should think over this problem. They should develope Softwares or games for LINUX in higher rate.
@Abhishek
Even me too was using Live CD before this installation.
@Ashish
Though the Memory configs. are same there are few changes which affects this, like chipset, cache memory, CPU speed etc

I have used it in the past, but I had problems with drivers for games and some software. Also, Live CD does the job in case you want to play around with Linux. I have found XP to be the better option in my system, but I guess that’s just me.
